2019-20120 School Year
Please remember that the first day of the 2019-2020 school year for all students is Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

We will be updating our website and Class Dojo with information pertaining to next year in the upcoming weeks.  In July, each student will also receive a summer mailing with information about their class for next year. Please make sure your address and contact information are updated prior to June 5th by contacting the main office at (215)400-7660.

Students in Kindergarten through 7th grade have received a summer workbook to help prepare them for the next grade, and our students in Kindergarten and 1st grade are also receiving book bags with summer materials.  Please have your students complete the workbooks and bring them back in the fall for prizes!

Lea Day
Lea Day was absolutely awesome!  Thank you to Mr. Rich and Mr. Brown for planning this celebration of Lea for our students, and to all of our wonderful staff and volunteers!

Graduations
Congratulations to all of our students who are moving on to the next steps in their educational journeys!

Congratulations to our Head Start (Pre-K) students who graduated this morning!

Our 8th Grade students will be graduating on Tuesday, June 4th at 10:00 am at Christ Community Church of Philadelphia (4017 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19104, https://www.cccphila.org/)!

Nursing Information
Rising 6th Graders MUST have an updated physical examination before the start of 6th grade.  These physicals must be recent (meaning they must have been completed within 14 months of the start of your student’s 6th grade year). We will accept physicals dated after July 2018.

Rising 7th Graders MUST receive the Meningococcal and Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, & pertussis) vaccines before the start of 7th grade.  These immunizations help keep kids healthy and in school.

Students with Medications: Inhalers and Epi-Pens will be sent home, but all other medications must be picked up by a parent by June 5th.  Please plan on bringing your child’s medication with a new medication administration form at the start of next school year.

If you need help with insurance or finding a medical provider for your child, contact the School Nurse or PCCY at (215) 563-5848 ext. 17.

FAMI-LEA INFORMATION

School Advisory Council (SAC)
Our last SAC meeting of the year was on May 8, 2019 at 4:30 PM in the Lea Library. Our first SAC Meeting of the 2019-2020 school year is tentatively scheduled for the week of August 26th.  A final date and time will be posted on Class Dojo and the Lea Website during July.

The SAC discussed the budget, facilities, site selection, SEED planning, and plans for next year. Principal Savage was not able to attend in person, but provided an update by voice memo.

We learned the good news that despite earlier cuts (due to our improved ranking!), the District has restored the counselor and two climate support specialists positions to our budget.

Lea’s physical plant is still in flux, with plans affecting the L wing over the summer now on hold.  However, all classrooms that regularly house students, including our Head Start, Kindergarten, and Art rooms, will be relocated back into the brick and mortar portion of the building over the summer.  The L wing will only be utilized for offices, itinerant space, and third party programs beginning in the fall.

We learned that with these facilities issues and with robust kindergarten registration, Lea will no longer accept voluntary transfers from out of catchment through School Selection. Our Autism Support and English as a Second Language programs will not be affected.

We also discussed plans for the ongoing SEED  conversations with Penn Alexander. We learned that there are plans for ten sessions next year, and while we appreciate the work to bring these two communities together, SAC members were also concerned about scheduling these sessions on our busy calendar, and the amount of work required of the Lea community.

We heard updates and calls for volunteers for the then-upcoming school play, and Lea Day on May 30. We also discussed the future of the APPT  after the initial program ends, and also the After-School program, which will be seeing changes in the near future.

The Student Council reported that the PSSA pep rally went well, and we heard about plans for the 8th Grade Dance on Lea Day, and also the 8th Grade Graduation.

Finally, individual roles within the SAC were chosen for the next school year. Molly McGlone will continue as Facilitator. Christina Jackson will serve as Organizer, the liaison between SAC, other FACE groups, and the broader community. Rich Liuzzi and Phil Gentry will share duties of Secretary. As before, the SAC will meet the week before school starts in August, at a time and location yet to be chosen.

Home & School Association (HSA)
The HSA is selling Lea swag as a fundraiser! We have “be-LEA-ve” t-shirts as well as Lea pop sockets and stickers! Ask an HSA officer or email us at leahomeandschool@gmail.com. Baseball T’s are $15, regular T’s are $10, and pop sockets are $3.

The last HSA meeting of the school year was on Wednesday, May 29th.  Please check Class Dojo and our website for information about the first meeting for next school year!

Have a wonderful summer!
